Meet Jo Burston...
Jo Burston is the founder and CEO of Job Capital and entrepreneurial movement Inspiring Rare Birds, which works to promote opportunity for women in entrepreneurship and has a global vision to inspire one million more women entrepreneurs globally by 2020. Rare Birds recently published Australia’s 50 Influential Women Entrepreneurs and #IFSHECANICAN, two books featuring honest stories about the journeys of several of Australia’s inspiring and emerging women entrepreneurs. Their third book set to be published in June is highly anticipated and captures the stories of kids building global businesses.
Jo has been recognised as one of Australia’s top entrepreneurs for the last six years and is contacted by top tier media outlets as a leading authority on global women’s entrepreneurship, entrepreneurship as a whole, and SMB markets on a regular basis. She is a regional Oceania ambassador for the UN recognised Women’s Entrepreneurship Day, is on the advisory board for the University of Sydney Business School and University of Sydney Innovation and Entrepreneur Advisory Group, Entrepreneurs Organisation (EO), board member of LaunchVIC, global board of Women's Network and is a global ambassador for innovative accounting software Xero. Jo is an active mentor for fast growth entrepreneurs and is passionate about encouraging young Australians to endeavour to find out exactly who it is that they want to become, and create their own jobs to achieve this.
Jo has had numerous speaking engagements with Google, Dropbox, Xero, EY, National Achievers Congress, Women's Agenda, General Assembly, Entrepreneurs Organisation (EO), G20YEA Summit, Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Innovation Bay and most recently the world's first inflight Tech Talk in collaboration with TEDxSydney and Qantas — to name just a few. Her philanthropic interests include R U OK?, Can Too, Project Futures, and School of Life Foundation. Her current businesses hold partnerships with EY, Virgin, Dropbox, Xero, Australian Chamber of Commerce, Moet Hennessy, CPA plus Angel, VC's, Seed Funds and many others.
Jo has personally advised The Prime Minister and the top 20 heads of entrepreneurship and innovation in Australia across academia, industry and government, which resulted in the release of Australia's Innovation paper in 2015. In additional, she has advised both the State Government (SMB Minister, Minister for Women and Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade). Most recently, Jo has joined the Advisory Board for the LaunchVIC initiative, a $60 million body designed by the Victorian government to accelerate startups.
